Whiskey Sour

Tonight’s cocktail is one of the standards – a basis for many other cocktails and quite frankly I believe is often overlooked. Well, I think it is high time to get this beauty back into the public eye! This drink is simple to make and when made with a great tasting whiskey, the results are sublime. There is not much more to say about this cocktail, so let’s kick off this weekend! The Revolver/The Semi-Auto

The Revolver Tonight’s first cocktail, The Revolver, is a treat… bourbon, coffee liqueur, orange bitters and orange twist. Simple yet refined, this cocktail is an impressive twist on the basic Manhattan recipe. It relies on a spicy ‘rye forward’ bourbon to maximize flavor. The coffee liqueur substitutes for the sweet vermouth and can be any variant available to suit your tastes – Kahlua, Tia Maria, Galliano Ristretto, etc. Tonight I chose Galliano Ristretto, but have used Kahlua as well, which will subtly change the end result. I think this cocktail is a great way to reboot your love of Manhattans… try one and let me know if you agree! Save Print The Revolver Author: Jon Santer Prep time:  5 mins…

Manhattan

Hey… it is Friday night and time for a cocktail.  Now don’t get bummed that I chose a simple and somewhat ‘standard’ cocktail like the Manhattan for this week’s post, this one has a lot going for it. As a matter fact, this cocktail was a favorite of my dad’s and while I am not making it exactly like he did, this recipe is very close. I used Bulleitt Bourbon and Clyde May’s Whiskey to make this drink. I like the interplay with the typical bourbon flavor and the sweeter Alabama based whiskey, much like the combination my dad made. So here’s to you dad… thanks for introducing me to the beauty of this…

Bourbon Satin

Tonight’s cocktail is an interesting one, but one I think you will like it once you try it. Of course, I have tweaked the standard recipe, but you should expect that by now! Simple and elegant, I find this a beautifully relaxing drink.  Without further ado, let’s get to it… Save Print Bourbon Satin Prep time:  5 mins Total time:  5 mins Serves: 1   Ingredients 3 parts bourbon 1 part coffee liqueur (I used Kahlua) 1 part white creme de cacao 2 parts heavy cream (or half and half) Instructions Chill a martini glass. Add cracked ice cubes to your shaker. Add all ingredients and shake well to cool and incorporate. Strain into chilled martini glass and enjoy! 3…

Bourbon Baked Beans

Here is a throwback recipe I created as a challenge after a ‘Best of the Worst’ Bourbon tasting party I coordinated last year. With several slightly unpalatable bourbons left over, I accepted the challenge of creating recipes to use the leftovers in new recipes as an incentive for attendees to take the leftovers home with them!  Here is the first recipe I created – a simple and flavorful bourbon baked beans. Save Print Bourbon Baked Beans   Ingredients ½ cup brown sugar ½ cup bourbon ½ onion, diced 1 clove of garlic, minced 1 tbsp canola or vegetable oil ¼ tsp cloves 6 slices bacon, cut in strips 1 15 oz can of pinto, great northern, or kidney beans (or equivalent amount of dry beans, soaked…

Smoked Old Fashioned

Earlier this year, I was perusing a book on old style cocktails from very high end establishments around the world. I came across this smoked old fashioned and decided to try it. With a few adjustments, I found something that has never failed to impress and delight friends and acquaintances. Now, I want to share it with you so you can share it with your friends!
