Nog Alexander

Another Friday night, another cocktail – albeit a little later than I had hoped.  Tonight let us get into the holiday spirit and what better way than to relax with a nice glass of egg nog.  But wait, isn’t this a cocktail post?  Why yes, yes it is… so I am boosting the basic egg nog with brandy, creme de cacao, and cranberry bitters. To keep the cocktail smooth like egg nog and not watered down, I will add a little bit of heavy cream (ok, who’s counting calories during the holidays… not me!). Time to mix and start making merry, Christmas is only a week away!

Prep time:
Total time:
Serves: 1

Ingredients
  • 3 parts egg nog
  • 1½ parts brandy
  • 1 part creme de cacao
  • ½ part heavy cream
  • dash or two of cranberry bitters
  • nutmeg for garnish
Instructions
  1. Chill a shaker in the freezer.
  2. Add all the ingredients except the nutmeg into the shaker.
  3. Shake vigorously to combine and lighten the cream.
  4. Pour into a cocktail glass and sprinkle nutmeg over top.
Notes
This recipe is based on the Holiday Brandy Alexander cocktail.

Possible combinations with egg nog are creme de menthe for a minty pop, kahlua for a coffee kick, omitting the creme do cacao and substituting dark rum for a Caribbean flair, bourbon for a Southern slant or vodka for a wintry blast.
